CZ 600 models have unique dovetail scope base and you have to be extremely careful to select the right scope mount / scope rings. We show you how to select the proper scope mounting solution for your CZ 600 rifle.
If your CZ rifle is not equipped with picatinny rail from production (such as CZ 600 Alpha or CZ 600 Trail), this article is for you.
Three sizes of upper receiver
What is confusing about the dovetail mounting system is that it comes in three different sizes based on
- model, and
- caliber
CT 600 rifles come in two variants – either equipped with picatinny rail from production (not related to this article), or with dovetail base of Remington 700 type.
You can find the Remington 700 type dovetail base in two models:
This Remington 700 type dovetail base can be then either used for
- direct installation of scope rings or scope mounts,
- or can be transformed into picatinny base which then allows more types of mounts and rings to be used.
Each of those two options has its positives and negatives and there is no one solution that would fit all.
Whether you decide to use the Remington 700 base or rather switch it into picatinny base, you still have to take into consideration the size of the upper receiver of your specific model.
There are three sizes of the upper receivers for the rifles ↓
Mini
At the moment there is only one CZ 600 rifle with “Mini” upper receiver size and dovetail Remington 700 base (i.e. not equipped with rail from production):
- CZ 600 Lux 223 Remington
Medium
There are three CZ 600 rifles with “Medium” upper receiver size and dovetail Remington 700 base (i.e. not equipped with rail from production):
- CZ 600 Lux 308 Winchester
- CZ 600 Range 308 Winchester
- CZ 600 Range 6 mm Creedmoor
Long
There are three CZ 600 rifles with “Long” upper receiver size and dovetail Remington 700 base (i.e. not equipped with picatinny rail from production):
- CZ 600 Lux 30-06 Springfield
- CZ 600 Lux 300 Winchester Magnum
- CZ 600 Lux 8×57 IS
Scope mounts & scope rings with dovetail mounting
You can install scope mounts (one piece mounts) or scope rings (two piece mounts) directly to the dovetail base.
As described above, the length of the upper receiver shall be taken into consdieration when choosing the scope mount.
CZ itself offers for this type of installation two types of scope mounts:
- 1-piece scope mount for “Medium” upper receiver, and
- 2-piece scope rings which can be used for all the sizes of upper receiver.
As with other mounts that install directly to the dovetail, the offerings are limited due to the uniqueness of each type of dovetail base.
Technically the dovetail mounts also dont allow use of any sort of quick detach mechanism that would allow easy demounting and mounting of the scope mount & scope to the rifle. This will be a negative in case you want to use the same scope on different rifles.
Transformation of the CZ 600 dovetail into picatinny
The factory dovetail base can be easily tranformed into picatinny base. Picatinny base will then allow you to easily switch the scope mount & scope between more rifles and also use wide range of scope mounting solutions.
How to transform the dovetail base into picatinny base? Through CZ 600 picatinny rail.
When choosing picatinny rail for your CZ 600 rifle, you have ton again consider the size of the upper receiver of your rifle.
As there are three sizes of the upper receiver, there are also three sizes of the picatinny rails:
- Mini,
- Medium, and
- Long.
The rails are fixated to the rail by a set of screws which allign to the holes in the dovetail base.
While “mini” and “long” rails are only available in 0 MOA angle, you can find “medium” rail in two variants: 0 MOA angle and 25 MOA angle for more distant shooting.
